SAN DIEGO—Hearts Pest Management President Gerry Weitz recently accepted the California Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) 2012 Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Innovator Award in Sacramento. The award honors California pest management companies for their innovative approaches to IPM, along with their leadership in promoting these practices.

Founded in 2002, Hearts Pest Management is the first Southern California pest control company to receive this award since it was established in 1994.

“I am in heaven!” said Weitz upon receiving the award. “Getting this award from the California EPA feels great after 10-plus years of building a distinctive company, built by green initiatives, holistic methods, ethics, and impeccable customer service.”

Hearts Pest Management was also the first pest management company in Southern California to become EcoWise Certified. EcoWise promotes effective, prevention-based pest control methods, minimizing the need to use pesticides. The use of organic and “low risk” products provides peace of mind for their clients.

“Regulators and environmentalists have used tactics to pressure the pest control industry into adapting environmentally conscious methods,” Weitz says. “We have created a corporate culture, and strategy that is a win-win for all with motivation in place of compulsion.”
