PMP magazine’s most recent webinar set out to show you don’t need an art degree or a big budget to create professional-looking marketing materials. All you need is your computer and an Internet connection to develop logos, commercials and social media posts that will get your business noticed.

Marie Knox, PCO Technical Manager, Product Development, Control Solutions Inc., hosted part three of the Taming the Social Media Monster webinar series. This time, she explored the use of strong graphics and explained how to craft effective posts.

“My goal is to help demystify social media for business,” Knox said.

The webinar examined some of the software, websites, and services that can be used to take PMP’s websites and social media posts to a new level.

Knox illustrated this point with a Canva.com demonstration. She showed how easy it is to create graphics for free or almost for free. PMPs could use Canva to create Facebook ads or graphics for blog posts, she said.

She also discussed Fiverr, a site that lists students and professionals who are willing to take “gigs” for small fees (most fees are $5, hence the name). Knox said PMPs could hire someone to design a logo, animate a logo, write marketing copy, proofread and edit copy, create intro clips for video, provide voiceovers for video and phone messages.

During the webinar, Knox showed how a PMP used the site to hire a designer to freshen up the company logo.

In addition, she explained that a PMP with a YouTube channel for its techs and managers to post video created with their iPhones used Fiverr to hire a designer to animate the company logo to use as an intro on each video clip they post.

After showing the animated logo, she unveiled a video the PMP created using iMovie. The short film incorporated the animated logo created by the Fiverr designers.

Knox wrapped up the webinar with a recap of Hootsuite, a tool that makes it easy to manage social media.

Knox stressed the reason for getting creative. “You want to have a call to action,” she said. “You want to drive people to something, to your website, to your blog post, to your YouTube channel because you want to continually expose them [to your company] so [your company is] top of mind. It’s about getting people to check out your content.

Parts one and two of the Taming the Social Media Monster webinars are accessible on the PMP website.
