Founded on Oct. 3, 1955, by George and Katherine Matthews, Modern Exterminating Co., Columbia, S.C., has remained under the ownership of the Matthews family for three generations. A 2003 University of South Carolina graduate, Glenn Matthews III continues his grandparents’ legacy as president and CEO.
“My grandparents always stressed to me the importance of quality customer service,” he says. “Customers are the lifeline to our success, and we want to do everything we can to ensure they are in good hands.”
Serving a 40-mile radius from downtown Columbia, Modern Exterminating has grown an ever-expanding customer base of more than 11,000. With 39 full-time employees, it has more than 700 years of combined experience in the pest control field. It is considered to be the oldest and largest independently owned pest management company in Columbia.
