TruGreen, Scotts deal and its impact on pest industry

TruGreen has announced a merger with Scotts LawnService, creating a company with $1.3 billion in revenue.

Up until recently, TruGreen’s parent company was Servicemaster, which still owns Terminix. TruGreen was spun off into its own company in January 2014.

Scotts, owned by the Scotts Miracle-Gro Co., also owns Action Pest Control, a regional firm based in Louisville, Ky. As recently as 14 months ago, Scotts was eyeing additional acquisitions in the pest management industry. By January 2015, however, it had reversed course and decided to “slow down a little bit on the pest side.”

Action Pest Control is part of the merger. For detailed industry analysis, look no further than to our sibling magazine Landscape Management. Editorial Director Marisa Palmieri is reporting on landscape and lawn care industry reaction to the news, and is also digging into what it means for the pest management industry.
