University of Alabama logoThe Association of Physical Plant Administrators (APPA) has awarded the University of Alabama the 2016 APPA Effective & Innovative Practices Award for its submission, “The University of Alabama Pest Management Operations.”

APPA’s Effective & Innovative Practices Award recognizes new programs or significant restructuring to existing programs that enhance service delivery, lower costs, increase productivity, improve customer service, generate revenue, or otherwise benefit the educational institution.

Submissions are assessed on criteria measuring institutional benefit; innovativeness, creativity and originality; portability and sustainability; management commitment and employee involvement; and documentation, analysis, customer input, and benchmarking. Projects displaying a high level of innovation and adaptability for implementation at other schools have the best chance of being favorably ranked.

Other 2016 recipients of the Effective and Innovative Practices Award include University of Texas at Austin, University of Colorado Boulder, Michigan State University, and Emory University. Each of the five schools is eligible to receive a $4,000 cash award sponsored by Sodexo.

Award recipients were recognized July 12 during the 2016 APPA Annual Conference in Nashville. Entries are now being accepted for APPA’s 2017 awards, with a Nov. 30, 2016 deadline.
