Hometown Heroes - Pest Management Professional
Hometown Heroes
  • Hometown Heroes: Southeast Texas Pest Control Association

Mark Twain called golf "a good walk ruined." But for members of the Southeast Texas Pest Control Association, a game of golf means doing good for their community.

    Hometown Heroes: Lanier James

James Pest Management president Lanier James is Pest Management Professional's July Hometown Hero for not hesitating to help out a true national treasure: The U.S. Civil Rights Museum in Memphis.

    Hometown Heroes: April Smith

It's not often that one of our Hometown Heroes gets recognition for going to jail. But that's what happened to our June Hometown Hero, April Smith. Smith, the owner of Cape Ann Pest Control in Rockport, Mass., was "jailed" as part of a jail-and-bail fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Smith was recruited by an anonymous caller to participate.

Hometown Heroes: Jason Maus and Jeff East

Pest Management Professional is recognizing two employees of Varment Guard Environmental Services in Columbus, Ohio, as its May Hometown Heroes. Wildlife Manager Jason Maus and Residential Pest Manager Jeff East, along with their respective wives, Erin and Michele, volunteered during the 2007 Ohio State Fair for the debut of an unusual event: Wheelchair Athletes' "Roll for the Prize."

Hometown Heroes: Emiliano "Emo" Claudio of Smithereen Pest Management

Emiliano "Emo" Claudio, a Smithereen Pest Management technician based in the company's Northlake, Ill., office, is Pest Management Professional's December Hometown Hero for his courage and selflessness.

    Hometown Heroes: Andy Senese

Pest Management Professional's December Hometown Heroes are being recognized for bringing renewed local interest in a gentleman's game, and helping put their community "on the map" for competitive golfers.

Hometown Heroes: North Carolina PMPs Unite To Protect Operation Sharehouse Food From Pests

People are starving each day. It is hard to imagine starvation in the land of plenty, but famine, war, genocide, and drought plague many parts of the world. Others need imported food to supplement meager domestic food supplies.

Hometown Heroes: Glenn Gordon and Pete Elbert

The southern sunshine isn't the only thing warming Florida's pest management professional industry these days — thanks to the warmth of two men's hearts adding an extra touch.

    Hometown Heroes: Jim Maurer

The film Rain Man opened many people's eyes to autism in 1988. But most of us probably didn't give autism much more thought upon leaving the theaters. Not so with Jim Maurer, owner of First Choice Termite and Pest Control in Winter Park, Fla., and Pest Control's August Hometown Hero.
