California Streamlining Moves SPCB

4 Nov, 2009 By: Pest management staff PMP Buzz Online eNewsletter

SACRAMENTO — The Structural Pest Control Board's (SPCB) transfer to the Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) from the Department of Consumer Affairs as part of Gov. Schwarzenegger's directive to consolidate and streamline state government took effect Oct. 23. The change was included in the state budget signed in July.

"Structural changes such as SPCB's move to DPR rarely occur in good financial times," DPR Director Mary-Ann Warmerdam said. "With resources limited, decision-makers took the opportunity to consolidate government. We welcome the opportunity to blend our responsibilities and provide services more efficiently."

SPCB regulates the structural pest control industry, licensing business and individuals who conduct structural pest control.

Its customers and the public initially will see little change. Under an agreement, the Department of Consumer Affairs will continue to manage SPCB functions through June 30, 2010, including examination, licensing and complaint resolution activities. The agreement provides time for DPR, Consumer Affairs and SPCB to plan how best to integrate and consolidate responsibilities, information technology and administrative functions as well as look for ways to eliminate redundancies.

SPCB and its 30 employees will remain at 2005 Evergreen St., Suite 1500, Sacramento CA 95815, and phone numbers and e-mails will remain the same.
