DuPont Arilon Insecticide Becomes a Staple Product for Bob Jenkins Pest Control
10 Dec, 2009 By: Jonathan Davis Direct To You: Ant ManagementDuPont’s recently approved residual spray for perimeter pests, DuPont Arilon insecticide, has proven itself to be a workhorse product that controls a diverse range of pests while offering an environmentally favorable profile. Just ask Mike Davison, manager of Bob Jenkins Pest Control in San Antonio, Texas. Since testing the product in July 2009, Davison has switched all of his perimeter pest control business to Arilon.
“We started with just one technician using Arilon and checked our callback rates after one month,” said Davison. “We went from a 12 percent callback average to 1 ½ percent. I thought there must be some mistake, so we tested for another month and saw the same results.”
Davison’s office now uses Arilon for control of the American cockroach, ants, pillbugs, crickets and other listed insect species. His technicians can now use one product to control a diverse range of insect pests, rather than having to reach for different products – saving time, effort and cost.
According to Davison, the excellent residual control of Arilon has made a direct impact on his bottom line. “Three months after our first treatments with Arilon, the callbacks just weren’t there. We didn’t have them. There is money savings right there – the product works.”
Davison also cites the environmental profile of Arilon as a key feature for him and his technicians.
“We practice green pest management, and the low impact of Arilon on non-target species is very important to us,” he said. “We’re getting more and more calls from our customers asking about green pest control and wanting us to use less product. Arilon, with its low amount of active ingredient, fits right in with our programs.”
Indoxacarb, the active ingredient in Arilon, is delivered to insect pests through ingestion or absorption, where it then converts to its MetaActive form using the insect’s own enzymes, effectively differentiating between target insect pests and non-target organisms, like mammals.
The packaging for Arilon has also made a tangible improvement to Davison’s business. DuPont is packaging the Arilon water-dispersible granules in biodegradable and compostable Terrene packs. These packets contain a premeasured amount of product to reduce handling labor and exposure, minimize waste and eliminate the need to triple-rinse prior to disposal.
“Our guys can carry one envelope and just throw it into the dumpster when they’re done,” said Davison. “This is a big improvement over carrying gallons of liquid and worrying about spills and leaking, and then having to triple rinse.”
The active ingredient in Arilon has been proven effective on many common surfaces including concrete, stainless steel, weathered wood, painted surfaces, ceramic tile, brick and vinyl siding. While similar competing products may break down faster in sunlight and other environmental conditions or lose performance on porous surfaces, Arilon applied to a multitude of outdoor surfaces, has excellent residual control over extended periods of time.
“We’ve had great results using Arilon on baseboards, carpet, stucco and concrete foundations, even tile,” said Davison.
