FPMA Announces New Board Members, Award Winners

ORLANDO, Fla. — The 2006-07 slate of officers and directors for the Florida Pest Management Association (FPMA) was announced during the association’s recent convention, June 21-23, at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point, Bonita Springs, Fla.

Jennifer Leggett of Lindsey Pest Services in Jacksonville, Fla., leads the new FPMA board, assuming the role as association president during a swearing-in ceremony on June 23.

In her acceptance speech, Leggett emphasized the importance of speaking with one voice for the industry and getting involved to make a difference, saying: “We have an opportunity to bring about positive changes on many fronts this year, and with your involvement we can do it — buckle up we’re in for a wild ride.”

Leggett also announced her theme for the year: “What’s Your Dream and How Can FPMA Help You Achieve It?”

In other news from the FPMA convention, Steve Dwinell, assistant director of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, received the first-ever FPMA Diplomat Award.

Additional awards presented during the convention included:

  • Doug Vander Poest Extra Mile Award to Roger Lewis, Lewis-Cobb Pest Control, Orlando;
  • President’s Award to Erica Santella, TruGreen Landcare, Orlando;
  • Harry J.  Balcom Legend Award to Bill Barrs, Univar USA, Tampa;
  • Committee Member of the Year to Vickie McCrory, Oldham Chemicals Co., Mobile, Ala.;
  • Region Director of the Year to Haley Blocker, McCall Service, Jacksonville;
  • Committee Chairperson of the Year to Tim Brock, Brock Pest Control, Lynn Haven, Fla.  
  • The Pioneer Award was posthumously awarded to Douglas C. Vander Poest, and accepted on his behalf by his widow, Cindy Vander Poest, and Steve Lum, Slug-a-Bug, Melbourne, Fla.

Trade show honors went to: Residex for best Single Booth; Dow AgroSciences for best Multiple Booth; Bayer Environmental Services for Most Educational Booth; Opportunity Knocks for Most Unique Booth; Oldham Chemicals for Best of Show Theme.
