New rodent alert station to comply with 2011 EPA rodenticide regulations

JACKSON, Ga. — B&G Equipment has developed the Fast Catch; a new class of IPM rodent station with a rodent alert function among other features.

While the Fast Catch is specially engineered to use most industry standard snap traps, it’s also designed to use non-toxic monitoring bait blocks and standard rodenticides. This gives pest management professionals (PMPs) a new tool for rodent control that is compatible with EPA 2011 regulations limiting the use of rodenticides in food handling facilities.

PMPs can order the Fast Catch in two versions; the standard model or one with the patent pending Rodent Alert feature. With the Rodent Alert feature, PMPs can see from a standing position whether the trap has been triggered.

The Rodent Alert system is entirely mechanical, does not use batteries, and has no finicky electronic parts to fail in the field.

“We tested the Rodent Alert feature through 389 snap trap cycles, simulating over a year in the field with no visible signs of wear on the alert mechanism,” says Cecil Patterson, president of B&G Equipment.

Entry friendly features include a “see through” runway that is specially designed to meet the foraging behavior of Norway and Roof rats, according to Dr. William Robinson, technical director at B&G Equipment. Once inside, it’s difficult for the rat to avoid the snap trap trigger as it is centered in the runway between the two entry points. After the rat is caught in the snap trap, the unique shape of the Fast Catch largely hides the dead rodent from public view while the red Rodent Alert button tells you it is time to inspect the station.

With the advent of new EPA regulations in 2011, when food processing plants and restaurants will no longer be permitted to use rodenticides inside and around the facility, the Fast Catch promises to be an essential new tool for PMPs.
