Industry loses Hall of Famer Blanton Whitmire

The PMP magazine staff was saddened to learn of the passing of 2004 PMP Hall of Famer Blanton Whitmire. He was 97. A memorial service will take place Saturday, May 30, at 1 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Kirkwood, Mo.

Among Whitmire’s industry achievements — in addition to being a kind and generous human being — are:

• Philanthropy for North Carolina State University. Dr. Coby Schal is the Blanton J. Whitmire Endowed Chair and Dr. Jules Silverman is the Dr. Charles G. Wright Endowed Chair.

• Widely credited as having invented the crack-and-crevice technique.

• Founder of Whitmire Research, which became Whitmire Micro-Gen Research Labs and was eventually folded into BASF Professional Products.
