Shortly after hosting its annual networking breakfast as a virtual event, the Professional Women in Pest Management (PWIPM) of New England announced it is seeking applicants for its regional Women of Excellence Award.
Now in its second year, the award is open to women residing in New England that work in professional pest management, whether as an owner, technician, office professional, manufacturer rep, researcher, etc. “The award will be given to an individual who demonstrates outstanding leadership and has made notable contributions to the development and growth of the profession and their companies,” according to the New England PWIPM. The 2020 winner was Julie Heincelman, ACE, of JP Pest Services in Milford, N.H.
The award winner will receive a plaque, a $100 gift card, and recognition within the industry and with NEPMA. Nominations will be accepted through Feb. 1, 2021, and candidates may be nominated by more than one person. Nomination forms can be downloaded here and emailed to marillian@buonopestcontrol.com.
On Dec. 10, dozens of New England PWIPM members and guests logged online for an informal networking event. Entering a “virtual ballroom” with several “tables,” and encouraged to mix and mingle to maximize the networking time, attendees video chatted with one another on topics ranging from how COVID-19 was affecting their businesses to how virtual meetings have kept their workdays busy.
The organization’s next free, online event will take place via Zoom on Feb. 18 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. “Forging New Frontiers: Women Leaders in the Pest Control Industry” will feature panelists Eve Pappas, VP and director of sales for Hoffman’s Exterminating, Mantua, N.J., and serves in leadership roles for both the Pennsylvania and Delaware pest control associations; Sheri Spencer Bachman, owner of Spencer Pest Services, Greenville, S.C., and founder of Pest Control Business Coach; and Marillian Missiti, president of Buono Pest Control Co., Belmont, Mass., and treasurer of the National Pest Management Association. It will be moderated by Courtney Carace, ACE, COO of Pest-End Inc., Methuen, Mass. Discussion topics include:
- Career challenges over the years in the pest control industry
- Skills needed to succeed
- Wisdom for other aspiring female leaders in the industry
- How the industry has changed for women
