Nixalite of America, based in East Moline, Ill., is celebrating its 70th anniversary in 2020.

In 1950, the Nixalite Co. manufactured and patented the world’s first bird spike, originally called Nixalite Porcupine Wire.

Seventy years and four generations later, Nixalite of America is still manufacturing and supplying the world with an extensive line of pest, bird and wildlife control products.

The privately held, family-owned and -operated business is now run by Cory and Jon Gellerstedt, brothers and current co-presidents of Nixalite of America.

“In 1950, our grandfather Charles Kaufmann invented the world’s first bird spike and created the Nixalite Co.,” the Gellerstedt’s said. “Seven short years later, on his death bed, our mother, Marie, made him a promise to keep the business running. Marie was committed to the company and excelled with her promise. Now, as we enter our 70th year, we are extremely proud to continue and grow the Nixalite heritage.”

Marie ran the company after her father’s death. She spent 63 years at the helm, and still remains active in the company today.

Nixalite’s executive offices, fabrication facilities, manufacturing and order processing are all located in its 24,000 sq. ft. headquarters.
