ConidioTec, the Centre Hall, Pa.-based manufacturer of Aprehend bio-pesticide for bed bugs, has received the Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) Registration Certificate that allows Aprehend to be sold and used in the Canadian market by pest management professionals (PMPs).

Aprehend has been used by PMPs in the United States for nearly three years, with more than 100,000 bed bug treatments completed.

Aprehend will be available through distribution channels only, including

• Direct Line Sales/Target Specialty Products Canada
• Ocean Blue Distributors
• Veseris

The announcement comes the same day as news that Target Specialty Products will host Dr. Nina Jenkins, ConidioTec’s  co-founder and chief technology officer, as she presents a webinar June 4 on “Developing Successful Bed Bug Protocols.”  Dr. Jenkins is also an associate research professor in the Penn State Department of Entomology, where she developed the technology with Dr. Giovani Bellicanta, chief operating officer of ConidioTec. Learn more about the webinar and register for it here.

Aprehend is a non-toxic, fungal biopesticide for the elimination and prevention of bed bugs. Aprehend offers a single, long-lasting application, sprayed as barriers in areas where bed bugs walk. When bed bugs cross the barrier, the spores stick to the body of the bug and are taken back to the harborage, where they are spread among the bed bug population. Bed bugs that come into contact with the fungal spores will become infected and die within four to seven days. In this way, Aprehend targets bed bugs both in and outside of their harborages in a single application. The spray maintains effective control for up to three months and can be used to eliminate and prevent the establishment of bed bug populations in single-family homes, apartment complexes, assisted-living, hotels and commercial spaces.
