George Lawlor, the information technology (IT) director for Tucson, Ariz.-based Truly Nolen Pest Control, was a finalist for the 2021 Arizona Chief Information Officer of the Year “ORBIE” award, in the corporate category. Lawlor and all the nominees were honored at a recent virtual luncheon. While the award ultimately went to Harold Dibler of Best Western Hotels, Lawlor said in a news release that “it was an honor to be nominated, especially considering the unique challenges 2020 brought.”

With more than 27 years of IT experience, Lawlor explained the pandemic presented many changes that had to be dealt with quickly. “During these times, we extended the traditional communication layer for voice, video, and service-specific [customer relationship management, or] CRM and other applications to work from home and field-only models,” he said in the news release. “Video was a core requirement, as well as IM/chat, and that allowed us to connect the front and back office. Our traditionally on-site support teams could now embrace work-from-home and handle our hundreds of thousands of customers, while practicing good COVID safety precautions without any disruption of service.”

Truly Nolen President Scarlett Nolen praised Lawlor in the news release, noting that “George has made an exceptional contribution to our company, as well as helped shape the pest control industry in technology throughout his career. Although George did not win, it was nice to celebrate him as a nominee and his ability to mold our IT department into what it has become is an accomplishment that goes above and beyond recognition.”
