The newest product in the BASF 2025 innovation pipeline is the Prelontra Rodent Monitoring Soft Block. This soft block formulation is a non-active monitoring tool that will benefit the Selontra Rodent Bait Switch Program. As part of a complete solutions toolkit, Prelontra Rodent Monitoring Soft Block will help establish rodent acceptance, and based on feeding levels, assist in estimating infestation levels prior to switching to Selontra Rodent Bait (pictured). After management is achieved, the monitoring program can resume.

Prelontra Rodent Monitoring Soft Block is non-toxic, highly palatable and formulated not to contain any of the nine food allergens (milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, sesame and soybean). It can be used to monitor the activity of rodent infestations as part of an integrated pest management (IPM) program. Like Selontra Rodent Bait, the packaging is a permeable polyolefin wrapper with lasered holes that allow flavor and smells to be detected by foraging rodents. The wrapper provides protection from the environment, and from slugs, snails and other invertebrates. The monitoring block has pre-drilled holes to allow for easy and secure placement on the bait station rods.

PREDICTIONS: Stricter regulations on rodenticide use are predicted from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and some states, including California and New York. These changes will drive the adoption of products with different modes of action and the continued shift to a more complete IPM program, where the use of monitoring tools to determine threshold levels of any given rodent infestation will be an important part of rodent management.
