The Virginia Wildlife Damage Management Association (VWDMA) hosted its 2026 Spring Conference in February in Richmond, Va., welcoming 53 wildlife control professionals from across the Commonwealth for a full day of training, education and industry connection.

The conference provided attendees with 8 approved CNAP CEU credits, helping Wildlife Control Operators (WCOs) stay compliant while preparing for the busy spring season.
Each year, VWDMA organizes the one-day event specifically for wildlife professionals, offering a practical mix of hands-on control and exclusion techniques along with real-world business strategies. The goal is simple: help operators work smarter, communicate better with customers and increase profitability.
Industry-focused training sessions

The conference featured expert speakers from across the wildlife management field, including representatives from the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR).
A key session from Leah Card provided updates on policies for handling wildlife species newly documented in Virginia, including fisher, porcupine, and armadillo.
Additional sessions included:
- Squirrel species identification and biology by Jay Howell
- Flying squirrel infestation management by Kevin Cornwell
- Zoonotic disease safety and prevention by Dr. John Tracey
- Customer communication strategies by Jason Hunnicutt
