Brunswick, Maine-based Modern Pest Services, an Anticimex company, recently released results from its survey of more than 1,000 homeowners throughout the U.S. Among the findings, per its blog post on the subject, are:
- 20% notice the most indoor pest activity during the fall, making it the second-most common season for household pest problems (after summer).
- 59% believe neighboring properties are at least partly responsible for pest problems,
- 47% say the stress and disgust of having pests in their home is their biggest worry.
- 20% are most concerned about disease and other health risks.
- 14% say protecting their pets from pests or pest control products is their top concern.
- 55% take a proactive approach to fall pest control, tackling common entry points and treating their homes with sprays.
Respondents’ top fall pests include:
- Ants 66%
- Spiders 60%
- Rodents 58%
- Stink bugs 35%
- Cluster flies 19%
- Multicolored Asian lady beetles 16%

Methodology: 1,004 homeowners across America were contacted about preparing for fall pests. Ages ranged from 18 to 75 with an average age of 46. Among respondents, 50 percent were male, 49 percent were female, and 1 percent were non-binary or preferred not to say.

After successfully establishing Modern Pest Services across Maine, Stevenson retired in 1973, passing the torch to his son Richard, who already possessed significant experience in the U.S. and Canadian pest control markets. Richard Stevenson was subsequently joined by his three sons, Scott, Doug and Richard Jr., and together they strategically expanded Modern’s service area into New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Following 35 years of leadership, Richard Stevenson transitioned ownership to his sons in 2008.
The legacy of growth continued in 2017 when Modern Pest joined forces with Anticimex of Sweden. Since then, Modern has strategically acquired numerous successful pest control companies, integrating them into the Modern family.
