Plunkett’s Pest Control has been named a founding donor of the Pest Management Foundation’s (PMF’s) new Legacy Fund. With a contribution of $5,000, the Fridley, Minn.-based firm joins other founding donors to help the fund reach its $2 million fundraising goal.
The Legacy Fund was established earlier this year through a $1 million commitment from the Gary W. Rollins Foundation, which is named after the Pest Management Professional Hall of Famer (Class of 2012). The fund is designed to create a lasting source of support for applied pest control research, helping ensure the industry stays on top of cutting-edge science, tools and information. Besides Plunkett’s, other founding donors to the Legacy Fund include:
- Arrow Exterminators — $50,000
- Moxie Pest Control — $25,000
- John & Susie Myers — $25,000
- Pest Management Systems Inc. — $10,000
The Gary W. Rollins Foundation’s commitment includes $500,000 in upfront funding and an additional $500,000 in dollar-for-dollar matching funds available to the pest management community. Once fully funded, the Legacy Fund will provide $100,000 each year exclusively for applied pest control research. This type of practical, industry-focused research plays an important role in strengthening pest management practices, improving service outcomes, protecting public health and property, and supporting the continued professionalism of the industry.
“At Plunkett’s, we believe the future of pest management depends on continued investment in research, education and innovation,” President Aly Silva Mulgrew said in a news release. “Our industry has always evolved through science and shared knowledge, and the Legacy Fund is an important opportunity to support the kind of applied research that will benefit pest management professionals, customers, and communities for generations to come.”
All contributions to the PMF Legacy Fund are eligible for the dollar-for-dollar match from the Gary W. Rollins Foundation, up to $500,000. The Foundation caps overhead on all grant funding at no more than 5 percent, ensuring that the majority of every dollar contributed goes directly to research.
