Volunteers from P.E.S.T. Relief International, Ashley Furniture, Certified Pest Control Operators Association of Georgia (CPCO of GA) and Sword of the Spirit Ministries International helped create safe and sanitary sleeping spaces for shelter residents at the Salvation Army in Atlanta, Ga.

William Hudson of Clark Pest Remedy and his trained K9, Lilly, performed a bed bug inspection to start the day. Breakfast was served for the volunteers to prepare them for an energetic start.

A team of 20 volunteers unpacked and encased 55 twin mattresses with new bed bug certified encasements. The new mattresses replaced the shelter residents’ worn bedding.

Ashley Furniture’s Hope to Dream Foundation provided mattresses, water bottles, new bedding and T-shirts, while Mattress Safe provided bed bug-certified mattress encasements to protect and preserve the new mattresses.

Residents of the shelter also took part in the restoration of their living spaces.

Before the day of service was over, volunteers placed candy and notes of encouragement for each resident on 321 pillows.

Volunteers and supporters of the service day included:

  • CPCO of GA – Maria Angela Collins and Glenda Lehmberg
  • Sword of the Spirit Ministries International – Shandor Burke, Ebony Bob, Jeremiah Stokeling, Gregory White, April Smalls and Kameron White
  • Ashley Furniture – Nina Fulton, Pam Redwine, Tiffany Hicks, Erica Hunter, Darby Aldine and Tarsha Terrell
  • Future Services Inc. – Teresa Carley
