Made with the right equipment, barrier applications can significantly reduce mosquito numbers, bites and callbacks. For best results, follow these tips:

  • Mist blowers: Ideal for barrier applications, these units force insecticide droplets into vegetation and the undersides of leaves. Use circular arm motions to force leaves up and expose their undersides, where mosquitoes often rest.
  • Water-sensitive paper (WSP): This yellow paper stains blue when exposed to spray droplets. It’s excellent for evaluating spray distributions, droplet densities and spray penetrations. Place WSP at various heights and depths within vegetation to determine which equipment setting provides adequate coverage. After spraying, allow WSP to dry and check the droplet pattern.
