Truly Nolen celebrates 85th anniversary, founder’s birthday

Truly Nolen of America celebrates its 85th anniversary in 2023 with a series of internal and external celebrations as well as several social media components all year.

“My father, Truly David Nolen, went to work for my grandfather Truly Wheatfield Nolen’s pest control company, Economy Exterminators, in 1938 in Miami,” Scarlett Nolen, president of Truly Nolen, said in the release. “My father eventually moved to Tucson, Arizona, where he opened his own company called Truly Nolen in 1955. After he purchased his father’s company in 1966, the lineage for his own company now stretched back to 1938 and allowed him to begin growing one of the nation’s largest family-owned businesses to other states besides Arizona and Florida.”

The 85th anniversary celebration, which was first mentioned on the company’s social media channels Jan. 31 with a unique cover photo of Truly Nolen, begins on Feb. 24 on what would have been his 95th birthday. Every year on Nolen’s birthday since he passed away in 2017, the company has used its social media channels to remind people of his birthday and to share their memories and stories of him.

Truly David Nolen, son of 2006 PMP Hall of Famer Truly Wheatfield Nolen, is best known for founding Tucson, Ariz.-based Truly Nolen of America and Orlando, Fla.-based Truly Nolen International, both of which feature a fleet of yellow “mouse cars” and antique vehicles.

“One of the things I enjoy each year is hearing long-time customers along with former and current employees share their memories on those posts,” Scarlett Nolen said. “Every year there is at least one memory someone shares that I have never heard before, which in turn helps me learn something about my father that I did not already know.”

Some of the other celebrations will include social media throwback photos, an 85th anniversary contest across all channels, internal contests for team members, external districtwide celebrations and blogger activities in several markets.

“As a third-generation pest control professional, I am thrilled to be able to recognize such an important number in our company’s history,” Scarlett Nolen said. “I am also excited to help carry this celebration forward throughout the rest of this year.”
