Rambo Total Pest Control is celebrating one year at its headquarters — affectionately nicknamed “The Castle.” With its dramatic rooflines and 1929 construction, the Puyallup, Wash.-based property caught the eye of owners Luke and Tera Rambo during a neighborhood drive in the summer of 2020.

They closed on the home in November 2020, expecting a few months of renovation work to convert the former residence into a functioning business space. Those few months turned into more than three-and-a-half years of extensive renovations.

A restoration project with purpose

Throughout the renovation process, the team completely reworked the structure to meet the needs of their growing company.

This included:

  • Replacing all outdated wiring and plumbing.
  • Rebuilding the sewer system.
  • Expanding the driveway.
  • Installing new windows.
  • Repairing original brick and mortar.
  • Reinforcing the roof.

They also removed the original plaster and lathe down to the studs to fully upgrade the electrical, plumbing and heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems — while still preserving the original layout wherever possible. The upstairs bedrooms became offices for the management team. The dining and kitchen areas were converted into workspaces. The living room now holds three workstations and the upstairs rec room serves as a conference room.

Looking back with gratitude

“There were times during the three-year process that we definitely had doubts whether we made the right decision to invest in this property,” said Luke Rambo. “Now that it is complete and we have been here for a year, we’re confident it was absolutely worth it.”

Today, the property not only reflects the company’s values and history, but also gives the company room to grow.
