Debug Pest Control, a second-generation, family-owned pest control company based in Smithfield, R.I., and serving Rhode Island, eastern Connecticut and southeastern Massachusetts, has been named one of Providence Business News’ “2026 Best Places to Work in Rhode Island.” Debug was honored in the small employer category (1 to 49 employees) as one of just 68 companies and organizations recognized statewide.

The Best Places to Work program, administered with research firm Best Companies Group, evaluates employers through a two-part process: an in-depth assessment of workplace policies, practices and benefits, and a confidential survey completed directly by employees. Because the results are driven largely by anonymous employee feedback, the award is widely regarded as a measure of how a company’s own people experience working there. Winners were celebrated at PBN’s annual awards ceremony in June at the Crowne Plaza Providence-Warwick and featured in the publication’s Best Places to Work special report.

The recognition reflects Debug’s founding value of “Put People First” and a multi-year investment in its team, including expanded health and financial benefits, monthly performance bonuses and tip sharing, paid training and licensing, and structured career development for technicians and office staff alike.

“This award belongs to our entire team,” Bill Horgan, president and owner of Debug Pest Control, said in a news release. “My dad started Debug in 1993 with one truck and a simple belief: Take care of people and everything else follows. What makes this honor special is that it comes straight from our employees’ own voices — and there’s no higher compliment than your own people saying this is a great place to work.”

Debug’s People Operations and Culture Director, Justin Rechter, agreed. “You can’t market your way onto this list,” he pointed out in the news release. “It’s earned through confidential employee feedback. Over the past few years, we’ve focused on listening to our team and backing it up with real investments in benefits, bonuses, training and growth. This recognition tells us it’s working, and we’re nowhere near done.”

The PBN honor caps a period of significant growth for the company, which now operates five offices across three states.
