American Dryer Corp.’s new, portable Exterm-A-Therm uses controlled heat to eradicate bed bugs and other pests in a safe and environmentally friendly way. Manufactured in Fall River, Mass. and distributed by ADC affiliate Atlas Pest Control, eco-friendly Exterm-A-Therm does not require contact with pests and is effective in even the deepest recesses of thick mattresses, the company says. Its exclusive solution involves a specially designed, portable military-grade heat chamber and proprietary electric heating units that gradually heat the contents of the chamber to more than 120°F — deadly hot for bed bugs at all stages but safe for most durable goods. A treatment cycle typically takes three to five hours from setup to conclusion, and the easy-to-use system operates with standard 120V outlets.
