Gary Wehlen, owner of E & G Pest Control, New Orleans, died July 2 at age 60.

He was active in the pest management industry, conducting continuing education classes and speaking to industry groups. Wehlen was current and past president of the Greater New Orleans Pest Control Association, past president of the Louisiana Pest Management Association, and a board member of the LIPCA Insurance Co. that serves pest management professionals and their families.

Wehlen and his father Ernie launched E & G Pest Control in 1983. It was one of the first local companies to develop an expertise with termite baiting systems, according to the company’s website. Pest management wasn’t his only career; he also was a drill sergeant in the United States Marine Corps.

He leaves behind his wife Laurie Henderson Wehlen, to whom he was married for 40 years, and children Nicholas J. Wehlen, Amanda Wehlen Mahoney. Daughter Courtney Marie Wehlen is deceased. His obituary can be viewed on The Times-Picayune website.
