RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — The California Department of Pesticide Regulation has accepted a label amendment for Phantom termiticide-insecticide, a nonrepellant, undetectable liquid product manufactured by BASF – The Chemical Co. Previously approved in California for use on termites and ants, the new Phantom label extends the product’s use to control additional nuisance pests, stored product pests and occasional invaders that infest structures, including bedbugs and cockroaches. The label amendment also allows Phantom to be applied as a pre-construction termite treatment during all phases of construction up to and including installation of the final grade treatment.

The amended Phantom label has now been accepted in all 50 states. Phantom can now be applied to control beetles, including Asian Lady, Confused Flour, Darkling Larva (yellow mealworm) and Saw-tooth grain; bark scorpions; bed bugs; boxelder bugs; centipedes; cockroaches, including American, Asian, brown-banded, German, oriental and smokybrown; European earwigs; house crickets; house flies; paper wasps; pillbugs; spiders including Black Widow and Cellar; and silverfish when used as a spot or crack and crevice treatment. These pests are added to the General Pest control section of the Phantom label, which already lists control in California for ant species including Acrobat, Argentine, Carpenter, Odorous House, Pavement, Pharaoh and Pyramid.

“BASF is very excited that the amended Phantom label has met the stringent regulatory requirements of the California Department of Pesticide Regulation,” said Michael Littell, product manager for BASF. “The new Phantom label now provides PMPs in all 50 states with even greater application flexibility for extended general pest control.”

Additionally, Phantom can be used for interior general pest control in non-food/feed and food/feed handling areas of structures, and limited exterior application where pests enter around doors, windows, eaves, attic vents, and holes in exterior walls where utilities enter.

“The expanded Phantom label represents the new ways in which BASF is investing in the industry with leading-edge chemistry, sales support, and technical expertise,” continued Littell. “Its label amendment and new exclusive, hand-held application tool – the Phantom Phast Shot – allows PMPs to meet their consumer demands in a more efficient manner.”
