Nisus Research Finds that Nothing Beats an Original

The research showed that Niban (red line) outperforms generics.

As pest control companies are realizing the advantages and popularity of Green Pest Management programs, some manufacturers are trying to capitalize on this movement with “knock-offs” of Nisus Corporation green pest control products.

While generic products may claim they are “as good as” or “the same as,” in the case of Nisus products, that’s not the case.

Niban granular bait, for example, is the No. 1-selling granular bait in the country. As a borate-based bait, Niban is a key part of a Green Pest Management program. And with its patented formula, Niban attracts a wide variety of different types and sizes of pests such as ants, cockroaches, silverfish, crickets, slugs and snails. It can be used both indoors and outdoors, and stands up to sun, heat and up to 4 in. of rain.

Recent tests undertaken by an independent third party pitted Niban granular bait against three competitive knock-off products to assess their overall effectiveness against cockroaches during a 70-day period. The results were hardly surprising: The generic products simply did not perform at the same level as Niban.

Terro-PCO is the No. 1-selling liquid ant bait in the U.S., and for very good reasons. Terro-PCO is a super-attractant liquid ant bait that will actually pull ants away from virtually any other food source, whether it’s something sweet like candy, spilled soda or even hummingbird liquid. And like Niban, it is also a green borate-based pest control product.

ide-by-side “taste tests” of Terro-PCO and another product were conducted recently in a mulched outdoor area. The baits were placed in the same kind of containers and in the same conditions. Once again, the knock-off product did not perform at the same level as the original; Terro-PCO clearly attracted more ants.

In addition to their unique effectiveness and green qualities, both Niban and Terro-PCO are packaged in many different convenient forms and sizes. Triple Shot bait stations are the newest kind of multi-purpose packaging, offering different baits in three separate compartments. Triple Shot TNT includes two compartments of Terro-PCO and one of Niban, while Triple Shot TNP contains one compartment each of Niban, Terro-PCO and Persuade, Nisus’ new borate-based gel bait.

Multiple baits housed in a single bait station offer pests a variety of food types to make sure they find what they are looking for at any given time. And the amount of product in the Triple Shot station delivers long-term baiting to help pest management professionals (PMPs) with problem accounts where large volumes of bait are required as well as with regular accounts to help prevent callbacks. Triple Shots are flexible, too, giving the PMP more placement opportunities such as wrapping the station around trees, sinking it into gardens and placing it under decks or inside pantries and garages.

We see everywhere in life that sometimes generics just don’t stand up to the quality of the original. Sometimes it’s food products; sometimes it’s prescription medications. In the rush to “go green,” don’t forget that generic pest control products may not deliver the same effectiveness as the originals.
