CLEVELAND—For a second year in a row, Weed Man USA has earned the No. 1 spot in the lawn care category for Entrepreneur magazine’s annual Franchise 500 ranking.

Ranking No. 89 overall, Weed Man is recognized for its exceptional performance in areas including financial strength and stability, growth rate, and system size. Since 2009, the company has jumped up 300 spots. Furthermore, Weed Man USA is finishing up 2012 with systemwide sales of nearly $115 million and an average customer renewal rate of approximately 75 percent. At year-end 2012, 16 Weed Man franchisees were reporting more than $1 million in annual revenues.

“Weed Man USA is honored to receive the No. 1 ranking in the lawn care sector. It truly reinforces our strength as a brand,” says Jennifer Lemcke, COO of Turf Holdings and Weed Man USA. “We take great pride in making sure the right systems are in place to help our franchise owners be successful. Without their passion and dedication on a daily basis, we would not be where we are today.”

The rankings for all 500 companies are determined using an exclusive formula that takes into account objective and quantifiable factors. An independent CPA analyzes all financial data. The most important factors include financial strength and stability, growth rate and size of the system. All franchises are given a cumulative score, and the 500 franchises with the highest cumulative scores become the Franchise 500 in ranking order. Over its 34 years in existence, the Franchise 500 has become both a dominant competitive measure for franchisors and a primary research tool for entrepreneurs.

“We’re delighted to share the positive strides the companies in this year’s listing are making and showcase them as representations of business strength,” says Amy Cosper, VP and editor-in-chief of Entrepreneur. “The Franchise 500 are a major force contributing to the franchise upswing. Their ability to successfully satisfy customers, continually add units, create jobs and grow overall keeps them ahead of the rest and worthy of distinction.”

There are more than 422 Weed Man territories systemwide.
