In June, a Homeland Security Department building in Vermont was infested with bed bugs for the third time in as many months. More than a thousand employees work at the facility.

Pest management professionals (PMPs) brought a bed-bug detecting dog to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) office in St. Albans and some chairs and filing cabinets were removed. The office’s director, Karen FitzGerald said in a statement that the Center’s leadership has and will continue to update employees regarding developments.

Treatments for identified areas began immediately.

“The USCIS recognizes the seriousness of the issue and is committed to working closely with our employees, partners and professional experts to resolve this situation,” FitzGerald said.

The PMP providing service explained to the department’s officials that there’s no way to determine the source of the bed bugs, despite many employees’ belief that they simply came in from outside.
