Shelter from the Bed Bug Storm

Interim House, a homeless shelter in Dorchester, Mass., received a bed bug treatment as part of a grant program developed for nonprofits through a partnership between Pest Barrier and Orkin.

Paul Dacey of E.S.P. Pest Control in Newburyport, Mass., treated the shelter in March. Pest Barrier donated the Cimi-Shield applied to the site to offer relief in an environment where current and new residents were introducing bed bugs continually.

Making the problem worse was that most residents keep their infested belongings in plastic trash bags on or under their beds.
“Our residents come in for six-month transitions between homeless shelters and their next home,” said Angela Fonseca, Interim House’s executive director. “We employed many tactics throughout the years, but the story was always the same. After a few weeks, the biting resumed.”

Now, more than three months into treatment, Interim House residents are seeing a marked difference.

“We’re relieved and thankful to E.S.P. for bringing this wonderful grant opportunity to our attention,” Fonseca says. pmp
