ORLANDO, FLA.—Tony Massey, president and COO of Massey Services, has been appointed vice chair of the Heart of Florida United Way (HFUW) 2013-2014 fundraising campaign. This selection puts Massey in line to wear the symbolic red jacket next year, when he assumes the role of chairman for the 2014-2015 campaign, which will be the 75th Heart of Florida United Way Campaign.
As vice chair, Massey will work with campaign chair, CNL Financial Group’s CEO Tom Sittema, to reach the campaign’s goal of $18 million. HFUW is the area’s largest funder of health and human services, and relies heavily on giving through local workplace campaigns as its primary fundraising function. Massey Services has been a proud supporter of HFUW for more than two decades; its team members actively engage in raising funds and volunteering for the organization.
“I am honored to assist the United Way in reaching its goals,” says Massey. “The agency’s values and philosophy closely align with the core values of Massey Services, which include volunteerism and teamwork to serve the community, so partnering with United Way is a natural fit.”
The 2013-2014 $18 million United Way campaign is a 3 percent increase from last year. Funds from workplace giving and other avenues are strategically allocated to results-driven partner agencies to support programs impacting one or more of HFUW’s focus areas – education, income, health, and alleviating hunger and homelessness. Hundreds of local employers and community leaders convened for the official kickoff, held recently, aimed at raising millions of dollars for Central Florida’s most vulnerable citizens. Heart of Florida United Way was founded in 1939.
