  • The legs of ants are extremely strong, allowing them to move quickly. If a man could run as fast as an ant, relevant to his size, he’d be able to run as fast as a racehorse.
  • An ant has 250,000 brain cells. A colony of 40,000 ants collectively has the same brain size as a human.
  • The average life expectancy of an ant is 45 to 60 days.
  • The common black ants and wood ants have no sting, but they can squirt a spray of formic acid. Some birds put ants in their feathers because the ants squirt formic acid, which rids it of parasites.
  • The ant is one of the world’s strongest creatures relevant to its size.
  • One ant species is the most venomous insect in the world. The Maricopa harvester ant has the sting equivalent of 12 honeybees.
  • Ants are the only other living thing on Earth that farms other creatures, specifically sap feeding insect homopterans, such as aphids, scale bugs and mealy bugs.
