Giving back: On behalf of the employees

Like many companies, McCloud Services donates money to local organizations.  But McCloud wanted to make sure their employees share the feeling that comes with charitable giving. That’s why company executives created an incentive program: When employees meet certain thresholds, McCloud takes them on a trip and donates $250 in their name to one of several national charities.

In the past two years, the company has donated $6,000 to a variety of organizations — including the American Red Cross, The Humane Society of the United States, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, Big Brothers, Big Sisters and the American Cancer Society.

“The first year we went to Las Vegas,” recalls Stephanie Dickson, vice president of business development for the more-than-a-century-old South Elgin, Ill.-based pest management company. “The second year, we took them on a Caribbean cruise. Seventeen people won the trip this year. The hype from the first year got people motivated to win the trip.”

As much as the trip generates happiness and the feeling of success, people really enjoy the giving back, Dickson says: “Part of their wanting to win is their wanting the company to donate on their behalf.

“It’s a way to help employees become even more connected to their community,” she concludes. “It’s really a positive thing for the organization as a whole.”
