Pavel Fesyuk hits the buzzer within the last second to advance to Stage 2 of American Ninja Warrior

Pavel Fesyuk hits the buzzer within the last second to advance to Stage 2 of NBC’s “American Ninja Warrior.”

Pest management professionals take on formidable foes everyday, but for Pavel Fesyuk, his off-the-clock opponents haven’t been pests at all; they’ve been some of the world’s most difficult obstacle courses.

Modeled after a Japanese game show, NBC’s “American Ninja Warrior” follows contestants as they race the clock and battle through obstacles in hopes of advancing to the next stage—and toward the $1 million grand prize.

Fesyuk, a technician at Town & Country Pest Solutions in Rochester, N.Y., gave a dramatic showing during the seventh season finale, beating the clock with less than a second to spare.

Following a few stumbles on earlier obstacles, Fesyuk was able to make it across the floating monkey bars and onto the rope ladder without a hitch. The only thing between him and advancing to the next stage was making it up the ladder and over the edge to the buzzer.

With the clock counting down to the last seconds, Fesyuk climbed to the top of the rope, lunged forward onto the platform and hit the buzzer with .99 of a second remaining.

The 31-year-old, Russian native had clinched his spot among the 37 other competitors continuing on to Stage 2.
