Roaming Tarantula Causes Flight Delay

Move over Snakes on a Plane, a tarantula is trying to steal the spotlight by delaying a flight.

Delta Flight 1525 was scheduled to depart Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport recently when an airport employee discovered a tarantula in the cargo hold, according to CNN.

The little stowaway was left over from a cargo shipment of insects that was breached. It was a surprise to say the least, and the passengers who were supposed to depart at 7 p.m. to Atlanta, left at 10 p.m. on a different plane. CNN affiliate WBAL reported that the pilot told passengers in the terminal that, while unlikely, there may be “something else” abroad the aircraft. The aircraft was then taken out of service the next day to be cleaned and searched.

Even though tarantula venom is not considered dangerous or deadly, there is a slight chance it may cause an allergic reaction in some people. That, and the unpleasant bite is like getting stung by a bee. Click here to check out more facts about spiders.
