Responsible Industry for a Sound Environment (RISE) hosted its Industry Issues Breakfast during PestWorld 2016 in Seattle, attended by more than 50 members and guests, including National Pest Management Association (NPMA) leaders.

Governing Board Chairman Jonathan Sweat of BASF discussed the association’s increased outreach to consumer audiences, while Karen Reardon, vice president of public affairs, gave an issue update and forecasts based on various election outcomes.

Reardon also shared the proactive work being done through social media including a Zika “Twitter party” and teaming up with Abby Wambach, former captain for the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team, to promote the benefits of natural turf.

“Fluency across all channels is important as we see social media drive regulatory policy like it did with the pollinators’ issue,” Reardon said. “Remaining silent is not an option; we’ve got to be in the conversation with authenticity and emotion.”
