During the National Pest Management Association’s (NPMA’s) PestWorld event last month in Seattle, the United Producers, Formulators and Distributors Association (UPFDA) held its board and general membership meetings. Among the membership meeting highlights:
- Dr. Cisse Spragins, treasurer, noted that because the finances were in such good shape, the group was nixing the two-drink-ticket limit for the reception immediately following and made it open bar, instead.
- There was much positive discussion about the benefits about UPFDA teaming with the Association of Structural Pest Control Regulatory Officials (ASPCRO) in regulatory matters. This is especially timely because there have been several retirements recently at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and a lot of new faces with varying degrees of familiarity with urban pest management.
- Membership Chair Donna Giacalone welcomed two new confirmed members: Houston-based Solutions Pest & Lawn Distribution, sponsored by Neogen Corp., and El Novelle, Plano, Texas, sponsored by Control Solutions Inc. “As I continue to say every year, we are able to find people still interested and enthused because obviously, our organization has done great work,” Giacalone said, adding that outreach to potential members will continue in 2017.
Nominating Committee Chair and Immediate Past President Tommy Reeves presented the slate of 2017 officers, which were unanimously approved at the meeting:
- President: Karen Furgiele
- Vice President: Scott Riley
- Secretary/Treasurer: Dr. Cisse Spragins
The board will reconvene in March, while the UPFDA Spring Conference will take place April 24-27 at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Conference Center in Grapevine, Texas.
