Orlando, Fla.-based Heron Home & Outdoor introduced its Pest Max all-inclusive pest control program.

The company launched the service in the form of a mock funeral procession for Charlie “The Roach” Scurryfield, who made the mistake of “wandering in to a Heron Home.”

The 8-foot by 4-foot American cockroach was placed on top of a classic 80s-style hearse with “We take bugs to the grave” and “Honk if you like dead bugs” decals. The mock funeral procession made its way through downtown Orlando and stopped for residents to take pictures and learn Scurryfield’s story. Heron employees, dressed for the occasion, distributed black roses, coupons and Scurryfield’s obituary to bystanders.

“It is very important that homeowners are aware of problematic pests and the ways they can enter their homes,” Steve Okros, ACE, COO of Heron Home & Outdoor, says in a news release. “In the recent aftermath of Hurricane Matthew, homeowners experienced increased pest activity. We were delighted to see bystanders participating in the charade. The idea was to educate customers about Pest Max in a fun and engaging way.”

Scurryfield and the Heron Home & Outdoor team will be attending community events and parades in Central Florida.
