As is tradition with Pest Management Professional (PMP) magazine, our February issue once again focuses on termites, with data drawn from our annual survey. We’re paying particularly close attention to the opportunities and obstacles that await those who offer termite management services.

We hope our coverage helps you prepare for the week of March 12th — designated by the National Pest Management Association (NPMA) as Termite Awareness Week. The association’s Professional Pest Management Alliance (PPMA) suggests doing the following:

  • Call attention to problematic termite species in your region: Use company call statistics and customer stories, and offer related tips.
  • Post only termite-related info to your Twitter and Facebook feeds.
  • Use the hashtag #TermiteWeek in all your social media interactions.
  • Create a termite-focused board on Pinterest.
  • Solicit pictures of structural wood damaged by termites. Offer a prize and free service to whomever has the best “worst termite damage photo.”

Our February Photo Finish is devoted to images readers provided of gnarly termite mud tubes they’ve encountered. You might say we’re observing Termite Awareness Week a few weeks early. But with readers reporting good weather conditions and ample opportunity for termite management services across the country, what’s not to celebrate?
