AMCA 2017How are you celebrating #MosquitoAwarenessWeek, which ends July 1?

“In the U.S., National Mosquito Control Awareness Week serves as an important reminder of the dangerous public health threat that mosquitoes pose,” says Dr. Kurt Vandock, head of public health for Bayer U.S. within the company’s Environmental Science Unit. “Bayer is committed to providing both products and educational resources to support the vital work of mosquito control professionals around the globe as they battle this deadly nuisance.”

Bayer has created a suite of mosquito education materials for its customers and partners to use in educating consumers. The “Controlling Mosquitoes with Science, for a Better Life” video highlights the important role of government-funded mosquito control programs and helps explain how they typically treat for them. Additionally, Bayer sponsored an informational television segment with InStyle TV that outlines tips homeowners can use to help protect their families from mosquitoes.

“Bayer offers professionals mosquito solutions like Suspend PolyZone – a long-lasting residual barrier spray – and DeltaGard – an Ultra Low Volume spray classified by the EPA as a reduced risk product for wide-area mosquito control – to help our customers combat these dangerous insects,” says Ray Daniels, head of marketing for Professional Pest Management and Vector Control for Bayer in the U.S. “We’re proud of these product innovations, but we’re also proud of our advocacy work around the world and our ongoing dedication to supporting our customers with tools and resources.”

The American Mosquito Control Association (AMCA), the sponsor or National Mosquito Control Awareness Week, suggests focusing consumer education on the “3 Ds”:

  • Drain: Empty out water containers at least once per week.
  • Dress: Wear long sleeves, long pants, and light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.
  • Defend: Properly apply an approved repellent such as DEET, picaridin, IR 3535 or oil of lemon-eucalyptus.
