On the morning of July 6, Univar sales rep Matt Eisenberg was in his office in Plainview, N.Y., but not feeling well. The 49-year-old knew something was wrong, so he drove himself to the local hospital emergency room where they ran a battery of tests. They found a blockage in one of his arteries in his neck. He had suffered a stroke.
As of late July, Eisenberg is out of the hospital and in a rehabilitation facility for the next several weeks. He has been with Univar for 11 years, and lives with his wife, Sue, and their two children in Long Beach, N.Y.
As the creator of a GoFundMe account for Eisenberg’s medical expenses, Univar’s John Hichak says he’s amazed at the amount that has been raised. At press time, $9,950 of the $15,000 goal has been raised, including a donation from Pest Management Professional magazine. To donate or to learn more, click here.
“If you know Matt, then you know how genuine a person he is,” Hichak writes. “One of the many things that we love about Matt is his sense of humor. He always finds a way to make you laugh every time you talk to him. Matt has been in our industry for many years. He is very dedicated to this industry and is liked by his customers and will always try to help them anyway he can. Let’s come together as an industry and show support for one of our own by helping Matt with some of his medical expenses. As you can imagine, deductibles, co-pays and out of pocket expenses are considerable in a situation like this. Let’s hope Matt makes a full recovery and returns to the office soon.”
