Tucson, Ariz.-based Truly Nolen Pest Control has promoted Marty Phipps to Florida and East Coast Mouse Limo driver. He will remain based at the company’s Englewood, Fla. service office. Phipps takes over for longtime Truly Nolen employee Jack Martin, who is semi-retiring after 14 years. Martin will remain working with the company on special events.
Phipps joined the company in February 2014 as a sales coordinator shortly after moving to Port Charlotte, Fla. from Indiana. Prior to joining Truly Nolen, Phipps worked with vehicles for more than 20 years, doing everything from working on the assembly line for Honda to working for Keebler Cookies for 17 years first as a truck delivery driver and then as a dispatcher. He and his wife have fostered 19 children in addition to raising three boys of their own.
It was during his second year with Truly Nolen that Phipps made a suggestion that changed the course of his career with the company.
“We had a community truck, complete with a grill and other amenities, that was originally based in Orlando and I suggested one person should be responsible for it on a regular basis,” says Phipps. “I volunteered because I liked working community events. A few months later, in September 2016, the vehicle was moved to Southwest Florida and I was made the full-time driver.”
Representing the Community Team with the truck and working in tandem with Martin has helped visibility at company events grow exponentially.
“I love teaching kids about bugs and making people smile,” says Phipps.
Just last month, Phipps and Martin worked side-by-side after Hurricane Irma struck the Florida Keys and Southwest Florida. The two took the lead on bringing an overall sense of community relief by hosting warm food cookouts at service offices in Key Largo and Marco Island, organizing clothing drives to help those in affected areas, and bringing food and supplies to residents of heavily affected Everglades City.
Some of Phipps’ new responsibilities include creating the schedule throughout Florida for the Mouse Limo and conducting “Good Bug/Bad Bug” classes.
“Jack taught me to keep a good schedule and how to keep it full,” says Phipps. “I love our company’s family environment and I look forward to the future.”
“Marty brings knowledge, excitement, and passion to everything he has ever done, both at work and at home,” says Michelle Senner, Truly Nolen director of public relations. “He was a natural choice, and one that Jack endorsed when he decided to semi-retire. I have no doubt Marty will excel in his new role.”
