On Feb. 1, Columbia, S.C.-based Modern Exterminating completed the purchase of Carolina Pest Control, Irmo, S.C.

Once owned by the Mungo family, the 30-year-old Carolina Pest Control exclusively did termite pretreatments for Mungo Homes at one time, then continued to grow and expand in the pest control industry.

“We feel grateful for the opportunity to acquire such a great company. Our family has been in business for over 60 years, and we plan to continue to grow in the Midlands,” says Glenn Matthews, third-generation owner and president of Modern Exterminating. “Expanding our company allows us to grow in service to our customers, create more jobs in our community, and continue to give back. This has been the foundation of what Modern Exterminating was built on, and that will never change. We look forward to this next chapter.”

This is the second company purchase for Modern Exterminating in the past three months.

Founded in 1955, Modern Exterminating currently employs 34 employees. It recently expanded its service area beyond the Midlands to include Orangeburg, Sumter, and Aiken, S.C. In the past year, the company was recognized as the first to identify an infestation of the “Super-Termite” in the history of Lexington County.
