Dr. Faith Oi, director of the University of Florida’s Pest Management University (UF PMU), announced a “Save the Date” for a free, upcoming webinar series titled “Essential Services and #BeyondTheLabel CEU and Technician Training.” Dr. Oi is also a Pest Management Professional (PMP) magazine Editorial Advisory Board member.

PMP Hall of Fame member Dr. Dini Miller, associate professor of entomology at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech), Blacksburg, Va., kicks off the series with “APM of German Cockroaches.” Her webinar will take place on Tuesday, April 14, from 4-5 p.m. Eastern.

Instead of integrated pest management, which stems from agriculture and assumes there’s a pest threshold with which the account is comfortable, Dr. Miller states that pest management professionals should be using assessment-based pest management, or APM, which focuses on seeing how big the pest population is, and performing regular treatments and follow-ups until the count goes to zero.

On Tuesday, April 21, from 4-5 p.m. Eastern, PMP Hall of Fame member Dr. Bobby Corrigan will present the next installment, “Rats and COVID-19.”

Dr. Oi notes that the series will continue through at least June of this year. At press time, she is working with the Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services (FDACS) on continuing education units (CEUs), as well as with other states for CEUs.

Registration is now open.
