On Saturday, Oct. 24, the inaugural “Bugman Classic” golf tournament will take place at the Sequoyah State Golf Course in Hulbert, Okla.

According to an article in the Wagoner Country American-Tribune, tournament proceeds will fund two scholarships — to one senior boy and one senior girl — attending Wagoner High School and on the high school’s golf team. The program honors Greg Blaylock, owner of Blaylock Pest Control and Lawn Care, who died unexpectedly at age 54 on Sept. 3.

Blaylock, a husband and father of two, started his company in 1990 and was known locally for his professionalism, kindness and “the knack of making every patron feel that they were his only client,” according to his obituary. He was also an avid golfer.

“Greg loved to play golf. He played at Sequoyah State Park for a long time and was friends with everyone out there,” tournament spokesperson Mike Boswell told the American-Tribune. “Several guys are involved in doing this (tournament) and we are all friends with Greg. He was a great man! He never said a bad word about anybody; he was that kind of guy. We thought this would be a good way to honor his memory and put together scholarships for Wagoner students.”

The article puts forth some parameters for the tournament:

  • Competition is limited to 24 teams, so early signup is encouraged. Entry fee is $60 per person or $240 per team. That includes green fee, cart, lunch and a goody bag.
  • Tee time for the first 12 teams will be at 8 a.m. The second set of teams will tee off at 1 p.m. Space will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  • Lunch will be served at noon.
