Jon Hockenyos

Jon Hockenyos, a two-time president of the Illinois Pest Control Association (IPCA) and the son of Pest Management Professional Hall of Famer George Hockenyos (Class of 2012), passed away Dec. 18 at age 84.

He earned a bachelor degree in business administration from the University of Illinois, and served as president of the company his dad founded, Sentinel Pest Control, for 50 years. In addition to being a past president of IPCA, Hockenyos was a longtime legislative liaison for the association. He was also a former chairman of the National Pest Management Association’s safety committee.

According to his obituary, Hockenyos was also a member of the Sertoma Club, an Elder and Chair of the board of Deacons at Westminster Church, and an avid model railroader and member of the Once-A-Month model railroad club.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sandy, three children — including third-generation Sentinel Pest Control President James Hockenyos — and seven grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hockenyos Family Scholarship at the University of Illinois – Springfield, One University Plaza, Springfield, IL 62703 or Westminster Presbyterian Church.

The Pest Management Professional magazine staff offers its condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
