Plague is still around

During the Middle Ages, millions of people in Europe died of plague. The disease has not been eradicated, however, and occurs when fleas become infected by feeding on rodents infected with the bacterium Yersinia pestis. In the United States, plague is common in the southwest, especially Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico. The disease can cause serious illness or death unless treated promptly with antibiotics.
