Burt’s Termite & Pest Control is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

Founded by Dave and Joan Burt, the business was purchased by Doug and Cindi Foster in 1985.

Foster told Pest Management Professional magazine that the company is having a community-wide celebration at a neighboring business, Hog Molly Brewing Company, with a live band and food trucks on Sept. 17.

During its 50 years, the company has grown slowly but strategically to 14 employees providing general pest and termite services to both residential and business customers.

Burt’s Pest Control is a local, family-owned and -operated company that has been serving the Columbus, Seymour and surrounding Indiana areas with their termites, bed bugs and other pest control needs since 1973. The company is fully insured, licensed and bonded featuring state-certified technicians.

Foster is a Purdue University graduate entomologist and former president of the Indiana Pest Management Association (IPMA) with over 40 years of practical experience.

“There have been many changes since we purchased the business, but my Top 3 are the introduction of effective baits for so many pests, the use of GPS over paper maps and the most encouraging is the professionalism and positive image of our profession as a whole!” Foster told PMP.

The Fosters’ two adult children, Autumn Powers and Brandon Foster, are involved in the business.

“Both of our children are an integral part of the business, and we will be eventually handing it off to them,” Foster told PMP about the company’s future.
