Frequent Pest Management Professional contributor Dr. Mohammed El Damir, BCE, was recently interviewed by, WDIO News, an ABC-TV affiliate based in Duluth, Minn., about the surge in mosquitoes and how to deal with them.
Dr. El Damir said in the interview that melted snow from the long winter has made it the perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes. However, these standing waters could range anywhere from rain gutters, to containers left out in the rain. It only takes a half-inch of water for mosquitoes to lay their eggs, and hatch into larvae.
Dr. El Damir, of Adam’s Pest Control, Medina, Minn., told PMP, “In the interview, I discussed the resilience of mosquitoes and their ability to survive in adverse conditions.”
He also told WDIO News about the factors contributing to the increase in mosquito numbers, such as the prolonged winter and melting snow creating ideal breeding grounds. Additionally, Dr. El Damir shared tips on how to avoid mosquito bites and some alternative methods for repelling mosquitoes.
